My journey to becoming a therapist has been anything but traditional. I’ve spent my life exploring what it means to be human, to connect, and to grow—not just in a classroom, but through diverse and hands-on experiences. My unique background allows me to bring a perspective of deep empathy, genuine understanding, and real-world wisdom to my practice.
Before becoming a therapist, I wore many hats: from telemarketing to warehouse management, graphic design to IT management. This varied work history taught me a fundamental truth: every person has a complex and fascinating story. It was this curiosity about people that led me to explore new paths. I spent years as a life coach, helping individuals with goal-setting, personal growth, and accountability, and I taught archery and assisted teaching martial arts to youth and adults.
My experience in these disciplines taught me the profound connection between mindfulness, self-discipline, and personal growth. I saw firsthand how a present-moment focus – letting go of rumination on the past or anxiety about a specific future – could lead to excellence and peace. This approach deeply informs my work, where I help clients find meaning and purpose not by chasing a single, predefined outcome, but by cultivating growth and possibility in the present time.
In my career, I briefly worked in behavioral respite care using an ABA framework. While this work had its merits, it ultimately felt incomplete. I saw that a purely behavioral approach failed to honor the emotional landscape and relational systems that shape our lives. It was this realization that guided me toward a humanistic, person-centered approach that values the whole person – their thoughts, feelings, and connections to the people around them.
An influential part of my journey has been my three decades of experience working with the kink and polyamorous communities. This work has been a masterclass in honest communication, challenging social norms, and creating authentic, fulfilling relationships. I spent years organizing and leading classes on everything from safe practices to relationship dynamics. My deep-seated understanding of non-traditional relationship structures, consensual non-monogamy, and diverse expressions of intimacy makes me uniquely equipped to support couples and individuals exploring or repairing sex and intimacy, promoting or rebuilding communication skills, and creating or supporting relational structures, be it within a traditional or “fringe” relationship structure.
This same open-minded approach extends to my work with the elderly. I’ve had the privilege of knowing and supporting individuals across all life stages within these communities, which has shattered common societal expectations about aging. It has shown me that finding meaning, purpose, and connection is a lifelong pursuit. I am passionate about helping elderly individuals navigate late-life transitions, rediscover intimacy, and find happiness on their own terms, free from judgment.
In my practice, I don’t just use textbook techniques. I bring all of my life’s experiences – the discipline of martial arts, the focus of archery, the empathy of a life coach, and the compassionate understanding gained from my community work – to create a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and understood.
You have a unique story, and I’m here to help you navigate it. I look forward to connecting with you.
